As the days become cooler, you tend to turn the shower towards the warm water and as the days get warmer, you tend to turn the shower towards the cold water. It may sound little odd to you that there are some people who bath with cold water during winter and take a warm water bath in summer. But have you ever questioned yourself what actually is good for you? Till now, there is no hard and fast rule about which one is better. As per Ayurveda, you should use hot water for bathing and cold water for your head.
As there are three types of doshas according to Ayurveda; Vata, Pitta, and Kapha:
- If you have a pitta body type then, you should bath with cold water
- If you have a Vata or Kapha body type then a hot water shower is much better for you
But, it not necessary to take a bath as per doshas as there are a number of factors you should consider before making a choice which is as follows:
But have you ever questioned yourself what actually is good for you?A cold water bath is good for the teenagers and people up to the age of about 45. Young children and elderly people should prefer the hot water bath.
Note: a cold water bath is ideal for the students who need to be alert and be able to focus on their studies.
Hot bath water promotes blood flow to your skinIf you have a habit of taking bath regularly in the morning then a cold water bath is advisable. If you are among the lazy clan who take bath in the evening, then you should try a hot water shower. As the dawn is dominated by the Vata dosha, hence it is ideal. In the same way, if you like to exercise before your bath, you must bath with hot water. It promotes blood flow to your skin, soothes your tired and achy muscles and helping you to relax!
Using too hot or too cold water is not goodIf you are suffering from indigestion or liver problem then you should bath with cold water. If you are suffering from respiratory diseases, allergies or even with arthritis, joint pain and foot pain then you should take bath with hot water.
You should not bath with too hot or too cold water--as bathing with really hot water can disturb the pH level of the skin, similarly bathing with too cold water can make you catch a cold.
