Asha, Lata and Usha, the three sisters are immensely blessed by Goddess Saraswati. The Asha-Lata rivalry was the talk of the town in the yesteryears. Asha Bhosle turns 84 today. Let us take a quick look of her fruitful career in music.

Asha Bhosle began her Bollywood singing career in 1948 and sang playback for various actresses in the 50s. She mainly received those projects which were rejected by senior singers.

Asha Bhosle sang cabaret and other item numbers songs sets aside for the 'vamps' or the sexy sirens of the movies. This indirectly helped her to carve a niche for herself as a seductive, melodious singer with the range in her voice. In the year 1957, with the patronage of O.P.Nayyar, she got big projects like 'Aaiye Meherban', 'Deewana Hua Badal', 'Isharon Isharon Mein', 'Aao Huzur Tumko', 'Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri' etc. But then, Nayyar and Bhosle parted ways.

This way, Asha was established as a versatile genius in the world of music and began to be noticed by other music directors like S.D. Burman. For S.D. Burman, she gave her voice in the films like Kaala Pani, Kaala Bazaar, Insaan Jaag Utha, Lajwanti, Sujata and Teen Deviyaan. Mostly, she sang duets with Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi.

In the 1960s, the doyenne of lively seductive playback singing reached the peak of her career. As the mouthpiece of the iconic dancer Helen, Bhosle created magic onscreen. Those hit numbers are evergreen. Even today, if they are played in any concert or disco, the evergreen numbers will surely sway the audience like they did before.

Even today when Asha Bhosle turns 84, those legendary creations churned out by R.D. Burman and Bhosle are still everyone's favourites. Singers keep revisiting the past and try to recreate, remix or just make an attempt to sing those masterpieces.

Asha Bhosle married the much-older Ganpatrao Bhosle when she was just 16 years of age. It was not a successful marriage. There were talks about her relationship with her patron O.P.Nayyar as well. But ultimately, she found a life partner in RD Burman and the relation culminated in marriage. This love story had a happy ending .

It's only words and music that bound these two together. Their diverse taste of music served as the basic foundation of their marriage . Their partnership contributed a lot in the world of music .

Burman gave her both westernised and classical tunes to sing. The ultimate product with Asha's personal touch was something to die for. The heart-warming notes and all the soulful numbers are magical indeed!
