Winter is the only time of the year when we often hear from people that their dandruff problem is getting bad to worse. The downfall of temperature during winter not only cause dandruff but also causes serious health issues. Your skin becomes dry and dead skin cells start surfacing. This drying is not only limited to the skin, it is also a common problem with the scalp. The tiny flakes start falling off your scalp on your shoulder.

Wearing a cap in winters can also make add on to the existing dandruff problem. Wearing a hat causes microbes to thrive on your head, so when you pull on a woolly hat or cap it raises the temperature of your scalp and you're more at a risk of dandruff.

In fact, the dry air raids the skin and scalp of moisture which causes dandruff - central heating in homes and offices warms and dries the air around you, can make the problem worse.

1. You can use a moisturizing conditioner

It is extremely essential for you to maintain enough moisture on your scalp and not let it get dry and itchy. For this, you can go for a moisturizing conditioner it will prevent your scalp from getting dry.

You can also go for tea tree oil, shampoos and conditioners. The products that are made out of tea tree oil work exceptionally well to restore the moisture of your scalp and prevent dandruff problem.

You will notice a remarkable improvement after using a bit of tea tree oil onto your scalp twice a week.

2. Keep yourself hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water. Often during winters, we forget to drink water. So, this winter do not do anything that can dehydrate the skin and hair.

As per the doctors, the average consumption of water should be up to five a day, but in winters people generally reduce their intake to four liters.

3. Take an adequate amount of vitamin

You should maintain an adequate amount of vitamin. Induce more of vitamin B and zinc in your diet, both work great in maintaining a healthy scalp and keep dandruff problem away.

Even omega 3 fatty acids work the same! These are usually found in walnuts, eggs, leafy vegetables etc.

4. Use less hair styling products

Using too much of hair styling products is not recommended during winters since the skin and scalp are already dry and the hair is deprived of moisture. Our hair can get easily affected by chemical products and may result in the itchy scalp which in turn gives rise to dandruff.

5. Avoid washing hair too many times

Washing hair too many times can make your hair dry and fizzy, lead to dandruff. Use lukewarm water or the coolest water you can stand to wash your hair and keep dandruff problems at bay.

6. Don't colour your hair

Avoid colouring hair in winters, hair colour aggravated with chemical products can affect the scalp and cause dandruff problem. For a dandruff free scalp, avoid using these in the winters since the scalp is already prone to dryness.

Even if you make sure that you pick a hair colour that ensures to maintain the moisture levels of your hair, it will ruin the texture of your hair and scalp.

7. Oil your hair

Before every head bath, oil your hair. Warm olive oil or coconut oil, is one of the best methods to hydrate your scalp and the hair.

Using Use less hair styling products, you can also mix different oils namely, neem oil, almond oil, and castor oil in equal measure. Heat the oil slightly and give a gentle scalp massage with the warm oil and rinse it off after an hour or so.

Wash it off with a mild shampoo and get a dandruff free scalp.

8. Be gentle with your hair

While taking a head bath, do not be harsh, this can leave rashes and rip the moisture off the scalp. The shampoos that are meant to remove dandruff problem usually direct for best results to keep them on for two, three or five minutes before you wash them off.

9. Reduce stress

Stress aggravates any existing condition, even dandruff can be caused by extreme stress as well as not properly washing off hair care products.

So make sure you take enough rest and eat healthy. Cut down your stress with exercise, yoga, sufficient sleep and a healthy diet keeping negativity at bay!
