What is the GM diet?
The GM diet is a 7-day diet plan where people consume suggested food groups on each day. By following the diet for a week, one can not only lose weight, but also put the body through a detoxification process, which gets rid of toxins, impurities or wastes from your body.
But wait, does the GM Motors diet actually work?
Let's first see first what exactly a GM diet is:
The General Motors Diet is a 7-day weight loss plan developed by the GM Motors Corp to help their employees be fit and healthy. It was developed by GM Motors in collaboration with the FDA and US Department of Agriculture. They did a final test at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre in 1985 before giving it a final approval.
Ever since the employees started getting benefits from the positive effects of the diet, it became so popular among the world that it came to be known in different names - 'the GM diet', 'the cabbage soup diet', and 'the sacred heart diet'.
How to undertake the GM diet plan
You should definitely intake at least 8 to 12 glasses of water every day. Cabbage soup can be had on all days or whenever you feel hungry, but limit the intake of the soup to just 2 or 3 bowls.
1. DAY 1
You can eat all varieties of fruits except bananas on the first day. There is no limit on the quantity of fruits that you can consume on day 1. For better weight loss results on the GM diet, it is recommended that you eat lots of melon. It would give a huge boost to your goal.
2. DAY 2
On day 2, you can have all varieties of vegetables (no fruits) in either raw or cooked form. There is no restriction on the quantity. However, potato intake should be limited to breakfast. It provides your body with enough carbohydrates (energy) for the whole day. On the other hand, you also get all the essential nutrients and fibre from the vegetables. Fortunately, they're all low in calories.
3. DAY 3
This day is a blend of day 1 and 2. You can eat both fruits and veggies on day 3, except bananas and potatoes. Since you're already getting carbs from fruits, you can avoid potatoes. By now, your body is prepared to start burning the extra pounds that were accumulated all these years through eating junk food.
4. DAY 4
On the fourth day of the diet, you can eat bananas and milk. The restriction actually starts from this day onward. One is allowed to eat up to 8 small or 6 large bananas and 3 glasses (250 ml each) of milk (skim milk preferred) on day 4. While the bananas are rich in potassium and sodium, you get calcium from the milk.
5. DAY 5
Day 5 is a big deal for the non-vegetarians as they can have mutton/chicken/fish along with tomatoes. One is allowed to eat 6 whole tomatoes and two 10 oz portions of meat. There is no alternative for the tomatoes and all of them have to be eaten. You get fibre from tomatoes which help in digestion. Fortunately, you can just go with your meat choice. The meat will provide iron and protein.
If you're a vegetarian, you can replace the meat with cottage cheese or brown rice, and 6 tomatoes. Since, you're getting extra protein on this day, it is suggested to increase the water intake by 2 glasses i.e. 10 to 12 glasses a day. Water helps your body cleanse itself of the uric acid.
6. DAY 6
This day, you can consume meat and vegetables and can skip tomatoes. Two 10 oz portions of meat (chicken/mutton/fish) and unlimited quantities of veggies (no potatoes) are required.
Vegetarians can replace meat with cottage cheese (Indian paneer) and vegetables.
By now, you must have started feeling a lot of difference in your appearance and body weight. You also get to enjoy this diet more.
7. DAY 7
On the last day of the GM diet plan, you can eat brown rice, fruit juice and unlimited quantity of vegetables. One must prefer preparing the brown rice pulao with sprouts and tomatoes on this day, as it is both delicious and nutritious.
All junk foods, white rice, flour, pastas, sugar etc. are not allowed in the course of the GM diet. Even though you've lost weight by following the GM diet, it may increase again after you're back to your regular unhealthy eating habits. So, it is advised for you to follow a low carb, high protein diet in order to maintain that firm and healthy body of yours.
